What a beautiful song. the images in this folio are particularly beautiful. The colors are wonderful. This whole thing has such a beautiful vibe. Happy to see it this morning, I hadn't seen much activity from you all week.

John Scot's avatar

Thank you all around - I’m so happy that you enjoyed it. Yes, it seems as soon as I resolved to concentrate ‘all activity through the internet’ I got busy on the outside. Not that I’m complaining - sunshine and real exercise is medicine at this time of year - but I’ve been distracted as of late.

Sunshine's avatar

I took my time with this folio, letting each image and phrase settle in. The flyers feel like secret windows, each one opening onto a world both familiar and strange. The Knight of Cups has slipped quietly into my thoughts and refuses to leave. The music and pictures together create something luminous and whole. I find myself wishing for a version I could hold, to see these wonders gathered in the light. Thank you, John for weaving such beauty and meaning. ✨

John Scot's avatar

Thank you, Sunshine.

You have helped me so much in connecting my conceptual worlds of art and inner development. These were both strong but separate for me for about 20 years until in 2012 when I consciously strove to unite them.

I did this somewhat out of desperation - ‘thinking-path spirituality’ seemed to become completely dark and lifeless for me around 2009. It was the same for my spiritual mentor that I’ve had in my life since I was 18 - but to my dismay he took up even more hardcore thinkers like Deleuze (replacing Steiner). Nonetheless, it was he that suggested I put down the books and ‘reintroduce myself to art in connection to inner development.’

I took up guitar and singing because it was new and unburdened.

This mentor wrote a book around 2013 - a complete departure from his previous “Rudolf Steiner” approach - I suppose it’s mostly “Deleuzian” language - and wrote about making art into the practice of inner development.

It was there that I became fixated on this concept (and efforts to develop) what he called ‘the consciousness crystal.’ He says in the book something like ‘this term ‘consciousness crystal’ is a place-holder until a better one can be produced.’ I realized recently the better term is the “Artist-Teacher” as you’ve described it.

The Knight of cups is the symbol of this ‘consciousness crystal’ - or the ‘artist teacher’ - this new, or ‘activated (virtual) organ of perception’ is - well, it’s nothing less then what you demonstrate when you approach your subject and I’m eternally grateful for how often you’ve included me in that subject.

John, your words always mean a lot to me. I feel so lucky to learn from your depth and all the connections you make between art, philosophy, and the inner life. Just last night, I was watching a video on sacred geometry and came across a building Steiner designed incoprorating a double pentagon-dodecahedron as the foundation stone. It made me think of your perspective and how you bring these ideas to life. Now I find myself looking up more of his buildings, just out of curiosity and awe.

Thank you for sharing your journey so openly. Our ongoing conversations keep expanding how I see things too. I’m grateful for the way you include me in your thoughts and explorations. It really does feel like a shared path.

John Scot's avatar

Thank you - and likewise, your words always mean a lot to me.

I’m excited to hear about you exploring sacred geometry and Steiner’s physical creations! These are the keys for the future, I believe.

Steiner dedicated his life to understanding modern materialistic science and merging it - or using it to ‘ground’ spiritual revelation - but on his deathbed he announced - ‘if I could do it all over again, I would have chosen ‘art’ not science!’

I believe ‘art’ received a powerful new impulse beginning on the 100th anniversary of Steiner’s death - March 30th 2025 and with the beginning of the new 165 year-long Neptune Cycle, which began at the same moment.

It’s funny, I was just about to write a section on “beware the institution and its minions who operate under Steiner’s name!” when I realized my personal bias makes that superfluous or even harmful. I have a good feeling when I imagine you visiting ‘the Goetheanum’ - this is a new age. If there is one thing - and one thing that’s very important to the ‘Artist-Teacher’ - its support and recognition - and I will give ‘them’ credit for both. It’s one of only places on earth where I’ve seen artists welcomed and provided for.

I would not say the same for “Waldorf Schools” however. Some, undoubtedly are very good, but ultimately the work of the artist here is ‘a cost center in a for-profit business.’

Sunshine's avatar

John, I wanted to circle back and let you know where my curiosity took me after our recent exchange. I found myself exploring Rudolf Steiner Web, just starting to dip into the ideas there. If you have any thoughts about that as a resource, I’d be interested to hear them. Thank you again for your generosity here; I always learn so much from your posts and responses, and from the wider conversations that unfold.

John Scot's avatar

Hello! I’m not familiar with the “Rudolf Steiner Web” website - I just took a quick look at their “Art” section and a couple other tabs and found it agreeable enough, but not very special.

If you’re looking for text, the ‘http://rsarchive.org’ has most of his books and lectures available for free. You can also search the archive for keywords - that might be an interesting way to begin exploring.

But the best way, is through people, I think - especially people that are now discovering his work (Betty Boldbrew comes to mind as someone you might be in contact with).

And I’m always up for talking about these topics and happy to do a voice or video call.

She is going to be burned. Why? Have they used to burn not only witches but 'majesties' as well?

Summer and chocolate go well together 😄👍💚🤎🩷💚🤎.....and the picture of "Дорожный Шоколад" brought back memories from the past...sweet little disturbers they are...

The colours in the picture with a word "History" are also sweet for my eyes...is this picture new? ..looks familiar already...

John, as always, enjoyable beautiful Folio, thank you 🤍

John Scot's avatar

Oh thank you! So beautifully worded too - “sweet for my eyes” - suck on that, Rick!

I wonder sometimes, though, if you do tease me. The picture you point out is one of my oldest. To its credit - it is from my own palette - from the days when I tried to mix orange and pink. The pink - really ‘brown-maroon-pink’ of the ‘Bondo’ brand wallpaper adhesive, was the natural color to that old plaster wall I experimented on. My one idea for packaging ‘internet images’ from the beginning, was to ‘cut out interesting shapes’ of the painting-tests I’d done. If you take that trick away, not much remains. It’s all in the package.

noria's avatar

😄 umm…I don’t know any other “Ricks” only one and only - “Ranger Rick”, which was unknown till…

”Once..upon a time in the middle of, yes, one gloomy day on the crossing the name starting with letter “R”, one, yes, that one, of the “border guards”, yes yes, that-bearded and with little rainbow flag on his broadly masculine manly chest, was showing his tinny attitude and power he obtained at the “border crossings school”…and that was his reason to try to be ‘the hole of that Ass’ and, thus, he acted accordingly…so, my “life guard” said: “Ranger Rick is angry, perhaps not enough..love he has in his life”. I didn’t know much about “Rick’s, who was a ranger” love life, but..the curiosity didn’t kill a woman..yet..so my deep findings brought a very intelligent conclusion: Ranger Rick was cute. Still..to this day I don’t know about his sucking abilities 🤔……

Tease?…never 😊😇…………..I remember the colours and feelings they painted, among a few other things I don’t forget…and this, which..you call it ‘old palette’, was one of the first sights that captured my untrained eye in Sub’s vast fields and deep seas of various things, letters, nonsense(s), words, meaningless meanings, politics, stalins, hitlers, and colours, and arts…just because of one very simple fact - the feel thru air of ‘something’ more..something else there, ‘on a wall of experiments’…something, that was more than just ‘I like, it’s interesting’.

Experiments, rarely but not ‘never’, are better than the finish itself, as ‘old’, rarely but often enough is better than ‘new’…for instance, look at new cars vs old….I know I know, wrongly bad chosen ‘for instance’, but that one was quick at my hand before………….”hey, woman, morning coffee is on the table!…get your little…’that’……..here”…….so, I go…I go………………….

John Scot's avatar

What a great reply! I’ve been wondering about you the past several days with all the fire going on in the heavens. I think it’s good that you are slaving away in your farm-fields - I pity any that would incur your wrath these days. Hopefully all, including the young dog, know to keep their head down. It’s a different kind of bravery on the internet for sure ;-)

noria's avatar

😄....................................you made me laugh..............me? wrath? 😄 noooo (unless I have a perfect cup to be thrown..but to the floor).......no-one ever had to keep their head down..ever..but they didn't know that......so, that was their choice if they did, while imagining/painting in their heads my tongue full of teeth.

As for young dog..well, we established the "alpha stuff" from the start, so boundaries we keep for actual 'lion's' teeth to be in the right place. Big..or hugely large dogs are in need for a good reason for them not to display the "alpha" tendencies they have. But.....alpha or not, I would trust a 1000 dogs and 780 cats before I trust 100 men or 1 woman.......interesting..I surprised myself, hey that twin, yes yes, you-in-blue....stop your surprises, you know the other one doesn't like them..........oh, well.............

John Scot's avatar

Oh no! You are too honest. What thread is this part of? Hmm… is this under my ‘comments’ or ‘yours?’ I realize you’d think it was the same - but for me - imagine! Imagine how I’d have to answer to the 100-1 ratio you give men to women. I grew up among women not men (socially) - if this were real life, I’d not be allowed to talk to you for a long, long time. I’d find a way to be sure, but it would not be ‘on the up-and-up’ - it would look dirty to an outside observer.

noria's avatar

Threads tend to thread to the fields that seem aren't connected, but..hey, everything is still connected while disconnected, so...yours or mine?..can it be both? As it comes to ratios...well, I might be wrong, the ratio could be 153 to 1......I have a question - why you'd not be allowed to talk to me or someone like me for a long, long time, if this were real life? .. as the saying goes, it takes two to tango............................oh, I love tango! "why" would be a right question, as always..but..don't ask.

Hello!

It’s a long story about Guinevere and getting burned. Well, she didn’t actually - Lancelot rescued her as they were setting up for her execution!

This is the most dangerous and least-likely rescue in all of history. Every single man on both sides was a “Jason Bourne” unto himself and there was only one Guinevere. And I say - yes - this is history.

Except you’d get in trouble to call it so in the kingdom of snark. I don’t mean to sound snarky myself. That’s the one thing that’s great and consistent about you. No snark. Anyway, when there is snark - you’d only be safe to say this is the “Matter of Britain.”

Oh and by the way - if you’re reading this - I ask you to give yourself pause. Do you understand the context of this Note?

I wouldn’t (personally) read further than here, if this somehow appeared out of context - even if perfectly intelligible. How strange to try, really.

And speaking of - if it’s an academic shame that Thomas Jefferson’s personal romantic letters were all destroyed by the man himself, then I say good riddance to all attention! Why invest in a language you can’t possibly understand (Tartarian)?

They took my spellcheck away. This deep in, and I’m supposed to care about grammar?

What does Thomas Jefferson owe the academics? To be ‘on the right side of History?’ This is propaganda and nothing else. Once they taught you that ‘pride’ was simply a good feeling and harmless to pursue - once they took the sin away from it - then they played the other stuff.

All the time and you didn’t get any stories. I’ve got time for a story.

I have to talk here because John Baker won’t talk to me when I get confusing (have a little beer to unwind myself), but I can only be honest and say what’s in my heart. And least of all - would I care about rules that were ‘obvious in meaning for all.’

This is the conspiracy! Both sides have hidden the British Truth from you, dear user - consider The Red Cross!

That’s why ‘everyone’ is against the Brits - even most of Britain! They use the cross of the Templars for heavens sake! Another contender for the symbol (and this is a problem in of itself isn’t it?) is “Saint George’s Cross” - same as found representing the beautiful country of Georgia five times over. They won’t let it go. Joseph of Arimethea’s Cross! Christopher Columbus’s cross! But what about the white? Is the white something? Is the white everything on its own? Doe it have its own story?

Consider the Red. Lancelot’s deed was not only ‘payment for the Golden Apple’ in the Paris-Aphrodite sense, but the creation of a completely new culture on Planet Earth. Chivalry and Chivalry alone settled it! It had never existed before - and then, there it was.

Don’t read Wikipedia - they’ll tell you she was raped! Not so! Genuine Peace was Won by the Sword of the Warrior and this ‘Guinevere’ character - the “White soul” of England - the “Whyte” - the ‘Eastern Moon Ghost Woman’ - of course there’s the negative take on it - “The White Witch” of CS Lewis and so on.. but anyway however you approach it - this is the very meaning of the name ‘Guinevere’ - “The White Phantom” - she inherited the destiny of England. She’s the Soul of England - our task here now belongs to the artist. This task, of course, is the quest to win the Holy Grail).

The Brits were the first only and ever to win peace by the sword and these Warriors chose then to establish peace. Guinevere - stepped in. The first phase of the Round Table was the Red Phase - the “Knights of the Sword” and the second phase the “White Phase” - the “Knights of the Word” - the “Moon Knights” represented by their leader Lancelot (The Moon itself - just like in Tartary!) who sought the Grail. The Sun, Arthur, rules over the first Phase - the “Rainbow of Noah” phase - the first Seven chakras and the first seven signs of the Zodiac, beginning with Aries, or Gawain.

The man who wrote these very important stories was himself believed to have been an imprisoned Knight during the “War of the Roses” (Red Rose of Lancaster Versus the White Rose of York - and we know who won - the Whyte!’ - that’s why the Queen rose to the top of the chess board - not through Irish shenanigans.)

Yes, this is the reason for the supremacy of the queen on the Chess board. But they keep the answer to that riddle well-hidden. It’s not too complicated of a story either. The symbols and names keep repeating and focusing ever stronger on the Grail.

They built the system of Chivalry to preserve the harmony of the Red and the White. The Red appeared first (a prophecy by Merlin to the Welsh King - hence the reason for the red dragon on the Welsh Flag.)

Those were the days of the powerful warriors - the new ‘hero-warriors’ - which legend had only spoken of before. When you ARE the legend, you don’t have time to write about it. The writing part is for fools compared to the ‘making of the legend.’ These were literally the stuffs of legend. Is ‘stuffs’ as good as ‘stuff?’ I don’t think so.

You, respectfully - even with a contingent of men - myself 20 times over, if you like - could not get near them to ‘have a word.’ They controlled EVERYTHING in the way from ‘personal space’ up unto the greatest extent of worldly possessions and power. Oh, unless you’re a woman. If you consider yourself as the ‘non-objective reader,’ which is statistically unlikely, than you’d be treated with priority and wouldn’t need a body- guard. I’m trying to give the ‘non-white’ perspective.

A question such as ‘well there MUST be tax records, if these people and times existed!’ is a game for children. I’ll show you my stuff if you show me your’s - and you KNOW what I’m on about. Nonetheless, the academics would have you not believe a great deal about these basic facts. They introduce the most odd statements meant to denigrate the institution of British Material (I heard an academic try to dismiss Chivalry with the same kind of attitude you’d expect of a Harvard man servicing a minor point). Least of all was it pornographic, which I do admit seems to be a favorable setup as far as attention goes a lot of the time. But this story never gets pornographic. The great author of antiquity - the before mentioned knight, Sir Thomas Mallory, confirms this (in the episode where Lancelot, caught unarmed, and in order to preserve the honor of Guinevere, breaks out of the trap designed to catch them ((in the act of adultery), by killing a fully- armed Sir Owain (Leo) (with his bare hands).

The academics tell you not to take ANYTHING at ‘face value’ including me and that’s what truly hurts. This COULD be AI, they decry (and the money-makers point out of the value of it). The attention economy. That’s dangerous stuff! Next you’re subscribing to some nut-case living in a basement with the water coming in from below. And it’s winter time. I’ve come to believe that he really is upside down from us. I can feel it.

Whatever - that’s not the only reason this type of opinion goes straight to the top in the universities. Strictly speaking - they’re adherents to the strange cult of epiphenomenalism which is to say the same thing as the currently held worldview of the atheist-materialist.

Wow that’s a crazy font you picked out! That’s straight-up Tartarian, if you ask me. It is supposed to mean something? ‘Chocolate’ and ‘Summer’ it would seem from the indication (Ockham’s Razor again). But when ‘world-building’ we need to be realistic - do they have chocolate in this world we’re describing?

If you want paying subscribers to stick it out with you, you need to give them personal context. Describe what people are wearing, how pretty are the women? When we last spoke about the - OH THAT’S RIGHT - you’re the subscriber who never plays D&D. So how do you propose to know anything about what’s going on? On the other hand - it’s money on the table, if I could send you phrases and you ‘translate’ them with your funky “Zubrowska” font, that would be something serious. Cash serious.

Oh no! I can’t see what else you wrote. As an Aries, I can’t navigate away from this window, see what you wrote (and HOW you wrote it considering your new font), and simply return to say more. No.

On the positive side, it means I get to talk about what I want, and how I want. No offense, but women are as bad as men when it comes to dominating the conversation. It’s all about them. At the same time, when it comes to ‘your turn’ you’re so exhausted you can’t get out of bed, let alone try to wax eloquent about why you’re more qualified to talk about Guinevere than the reader. They only care about how they feel anyway.. it’s not a matter of content or God forbid context (I found the “italicize” key, and now I’m out for revenge). But if you can’t get your female readers to like your female characters, forget about it. Well - I mean I guess you can have bad things happen to them. But what then?

I wonder what you wrote about. There was a lot of content in your message - I’m not knocking you for whatever you brought up specifically, just saying to try to get a handle on specific meaning through foreign language interpretation seems like a dead end. No one is going to want to read that. The only question they ever have is ‘what are wearing?’ Do you like chocolate?

No, I’m really asking. If we ever hung out, I would like to bring the right stuff. I think that’s a name of a movie. Do you like movies? Do you like movies AND chocolate?

Now I know how poor Wise Wolf feels. It’s not easy in this day and age. I especially feel it for the writers. I was getting irritable, but not anymore. “Summer” and “Chocolate” seems to be the missing genius of the moment. Go figure, you spend all of your time trying to reinvent the wheel and all it takes is the right circle around the right spot (that you missed) and you have everything.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the folio - I don’t remember any complaints.

noria's avatar

“Do you understand the context of this Note?”…hmm…thinking now…is your question an answer? a statement? …………even if it is, I will read the “wouldn’t read” later 🤓…………

John Scot's avatar

Sometimes I forget myself - I just looked at your subscriber list and am reminded of where I come from. Of course you are the exception - you are the rule.

noria's avatar

Subscribers' lists in so many cases mean absolutely nothing..meaningless meaning of the meaning 😊. Mine? Oh, "it came from pain masking itself with a smile on it's face...I didn't even knew about the mask..but kept and keep knowing well...where I came from". Cats..and dogs and certain names are capable of making miracles. Do not trust the success of "cats and dogs"..unless they are playing in the rain....and surely do not trust..names, they hide and lie, just as history we were advised or forced to learn, does.

On the other hand, some subscribers' lists tell the story. Not mine.

John Scot's avatar

True - well - also keep in mind -when I see your subscriber list, Substack arranges it according to who is ‘most relevant to me’ - so it looks like gold. You have lots of subscribers I would feel very special to have :-)

noria's avatar

..oh…umm…I never knew about this arrangement by Sub…But the compliment I got from you, yes, that one, oh, I do not deserve it definitely and..you can trust me on this one…hmmmmmmm….what a strange expression trust “on this”……imagining/thinking/painting now: “on” means what? one can step on…climb on…jump on…fly on…ghem, yes, that too…etc…..on what in this case? on ‘trust’? Is ‘trust’ tangible?

John Scot's avatar

Oh no! You were certainly not the ‘you’ meant at that point - heavens no!

Thank you Ash. Last year I remember it felt bewildering to consider that your experience of the Seasons was opposite to mine. This year it feels grounding. In the Summer time, the living is easy - one can float away - but the thought of cold waters rising in an underground lair sobers the mind and chills present experience back down to reality.
